Hawaiian Club
I joined in october when I was a sophomore. Being in this club has taught me so much, like how to dance the traditional way, how to properly pronounce the hawaiian words and chants, and it also taught me how to interact with other students. Hawaiian club has actually introduced me to the friends I have now. I feel like without Hawaiian club, I would probably not have the friends I have right now. Because of Hawaiian club, I was able to dig into the roots of the Hawaiian culture. The hula that I learned, I enjoy dancing them and the dance literally glued into my brain. We were supposed to hold a Luau in May of 2020, but because of Covid, we were supposed to do it in March, after spring break. Since we were in quarantine during that time, the luau was held in July, which sadly I didn't participate in. All the hard work that I put in, I never gotten the chance to show it.
Junior year, the club was online and had taken a toll on not only the leaders but also who were always showing up. We couldn't do much because only 3-5 people ever show up and the club leaders decided that it would be best to cancel the luau.
Jump to my senior year, practice was a bit chaotic since we could finally go to school in person and no one was used to it. I only went for a couple weeks and then I started working more and work began to interfere with Hawaiian club.

Eco Club
I wanted to do something different, something outside of my comfort zone, and then this club came into mind, the Eco club. I enrolled into this club in October of 2021 and to say, it has already change the views I have on the environment. The fact that the students and the teachers that are in this club are so into helping out the community, really brought something to me. I want to be able to change the world, even if I start with something small. I really like the fact that the teachers push the student to come up with creative ideas that can help out the community and their schools. I realized that being in this club can have a huge impact in our lives. Imagine someone from the college admissions seeing this club on your application and reading about the different work that you did to change the lives of the people in your community would or probably could get you in the school that you have always dreamt of going to.
5 months in and I am glad to say we got a lot done with this club. I started the KCS Zero Waste Initiative and a grant for the club to use through a sustainability program. The KCS Zero waste is reducing plastic consumption made by the school and start to recycle and compost. We will begin a composting program at the school either next week or the week following and our recycling program either the end of April/beginning of May or during the start of the new school year.
